Russian firm signs Dh1.8m orders with two UAE firms

Russian major United Metallurgical Company (UMC), which manufactures pipes for the oil and gas industry, has received two orders estimated at Dh1.8 million for 1,100 tonnes of pipes from two UAE-based companies.

According to Daniel Garduz, UMC marketing director, "We have received a very positive response from the industry professionals visiting the show, as is evidenced by the two orders we received on the first day.

"We have also been negotiating with more than 30 companies from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, India and Malaysia."

The company struck the deal at the Arab Oil and Gas show.

UMC also manufactures a variety of other metallurgical products including wheels for the railway industry.

Its pipe manufacturing division is located in its main plant, the Vyksa Steel Works, in Vyksa, Russia.

The company supplies pipes to a number of oil and gas industry majors including Shell and Exxon Mobile. UMC is also a major supplier of pipes to the National Petroleum Co. of Iran.

Create Valve and Fitting Company (AVFC) — an Indian company also taking part in the Arab Oil and Gas show — has received orders worth an estimated Dh1 million for its innovative GasFuse product that was launched at the show.

The product is a pressure safety valve that provides zero-leak shut-off in a split second when an accident occurs.

The company has recently appointed Faran Trading as its sole distributor in Iran.

In a related development, the company has also appointed Masdar, a Dar Al Riyadh Holding Company, as its distributor in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Airblast Middle East, engaged in manufacturing blast machines, signed a deal worth an estimated $4.7 million.

It will supply stationary wheel blast machines, fully automated blast rooms and the Airblast Aqua Storm Dust Free Slurry Blast System.

There are also supply contracts for its range of steel abrasives worth an estimated $500,000 over the next 12 months.

The company also launched the Graco Xtreme Mix Plural Component Sprayer (Xtreme Mix) at the show.

According to Nick Smith, managing director, Airblast Middle East: "The Oil and Gas Show 2003 has provided us a forum for the launch of Xtreme Mix, which is the world's only portable, air-powered, ratio assured, variable ratio, plural component sprayer.

"The presence of large country pavilions from across the world gave the product the best possible exposure amongst industry professionals and experts."

Euroblast Middle East, another blast machine manufacturer, transacted deals worth an estimated $4 million for its portfolio of products.
